Twelfth Night
When Viola is shipwrecked on a strange land, desperate at the loss of her twin brother Sebastian, she disguises herself as a boy to survive. What follows is a delightful comedy of mistaken identities, tangled love affairs, and the witty wisdom of a fool.
This production of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night is a celebration of love and a playful exploration of identity. In the magical land of Illyria, the characters, whether they live there or are shipwrecked upon its shores, are all swept into a fever of love, leading them to question what is true love versus false love, and what is authentic identity versus disguise.
In staging Twelfth Night, we embraced the idea of an all-female cast, in contrast to Shakespeare's original all-male productions. This decision brings fresh resonance to the play's central themes of truth and illusion, particularly in the fluidity of gender and the performance of identity.
